Vote Imara Crooms for Prince Georgeβs County Council, District 9
Organizer. Activist. Publicly Financed Democrat for local office. Power in the People. Pride in Our County. Progress that Belongs to All of Us.
Why Iβm Running
I'm running for a seat on County Council to put the skills I earned abroad to work at home, to make a better future locally for my daughter Aster, and to make sure Prince Georgeβs County works for all of us, not just the well-connected. Iβve spent my life organizing for justice, from promotion of democracy and good governance abroad to community organizing and activism at home.

Committed to providing leadership and services you can count on.
Grateful to everyone who came out for the Subregion 5 Listening Session last night. Folks showed up with tough questions, strong opinions, and passion for what the future of our communities should look like. It was an inspiring reminder that planning works best when we do it together. A great start to shaping our shared future! #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #SmartDevelopment #PrinceGeorgesCounty #accokeekmd
As the County updates its Subregion 5 and 6 plans, it’s so important that residents make themselves heard about the future of our community. I believe we must focus on strengthening and investing in our existing communities —places like Clinton and Upper Marlboro— rather than pushing unchecked development further south and in our more rural and undeveloped areas.
No one benefits from more sprawl. Any new development must come with the infrastructure needed makes communities livable: sidewalks, safe roads, accessible transit, reliable utilities, and well-planned public spaces. Past evidence suggests developers aren’t willing to commit to these investments. Growth here should serve the people, present and future, who live here rather than the profit margins of developers.
Finally we have an obligation to protect our environment. That means development only where it makes sense, where the community supports it, and where it won’t undermine our shared air, water, and quality of life.
Prince George’s deserves a future shaped by thoughtful planning, community voices, and public interest, rather than sprawl disguised as progress.

October has always been my favorite month, cool air, changing leaves, and of course Halloween ππ». This year, I’ve spent it hard on the campaign trail ,canvassing 3+ days a week and joining community events across the district. Looking back, I’m grateful for every conversation, every doorstep, and every neighbor who shares a vision for a better, fairer future for Prince George’s County. #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #PeoplePowered #PGCounty
Had a great time at the “Empowering the Community Conference” this weekend, hosted by the Coalition of Central Prince George’s County Community Organizations. So many great opportunities to talk with neighbors about the challenges and potential of HOAs, co-ops, and condo associations, often the grassroots foundation of our local democracy. Engaging these groups means strengthening our county. #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #PrinceGeorgesCounty
Great stuff at today’s “Community Dialogue on Data Centers”, hosted by Delegate Jamila Woods. As always, @delegatejamilajwoods led by example, bringing folks together for an honest, solution-focused conversation on the opportunities and challenges ahead as Prince George’s tackles data centers and responsive, responsible governance. Grateful to everyone who joined and shared their expertise! #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #DataCenters #PrinceGeorgesCounty
Wrapped up my Saturday at the No Kings protest in DC. Amazing being one of tens of thousands standing up to say no to would-be kings and their enablers. The energy was uplifting, defiant, and deeply human. So critical to protect these spaces for our elders, our kids, and everyone who refuses to bow to fear π«π #NoKings #ImaraForPG #DemocracyInAction #CommunityFirst
Had an amazing time at Farm Fest last week benefiting the Sickle Cell Coalition of Maryland. We spent the day at Showplace Arena working the Briar Rose apothecary stand, talking local politics, and learning the tradition of Black rodeo in MD. Aster especially loved the horses π . Grateful for everyone who came out to support such an important cause!

So grateful to the folks at IBEW local 26 @steamfitterslocal602 and @iupat_dc51 for welcoming me into your training facilities. Support and appreciation of organized labor and the workers who build and sustain our county is one of my core values. “Smart development” means labor and community at the table, with jobs that pay living wages and futures we can be proud of. #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #UnionStrong #SmartDevelopment
Loved taking part in Upper Marlboro’s Community Clean-Up Day this Saturday ππ§Ή It’s always rewarding cooperating with others to give back, especially in a place my daughter loves so much. Small acts of care like this keep our community beautiful and strong. #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst #UpperMarlboro
I told some fellow organizers the other day that October is the best time to canvass π the weather’s perfect, the energy in the community is high, and every road is full of Halloween spirit π. Good times out talking with neighbors and seeing what makes each corner of the county feel like home.

Had a great time at today’s Mix & Mingle Meet & Greet! Wonderful seeing the new Upper Marlboro location, neighbors out in support, and one of my favorite Clinton spots expanding here. Excited to back them as they grow, including helping secure their liquor license. Please join me in supporting them by signing the petition https://bit.ly/46FBfAw

π Today I turn 44!
2025’s been a rough one for all of us, but look at me surviving! If you’ve ever wondered what to give a 44-year-old organizer who’s always short on time between raising a lil bebe and running for office…the correct answer is political donations or volunteer time β€οΈ

Grateful to join the 3rd Annual Senior Luncheon hosted by Delegate @jeffrielongjr . Hundreds of seniors from District 27B came together for a delicious meal and the joy of community. Extra thankful to share the day with my favorite campaign staff (Mom n Pop). Big thanks to Jeffrie for the recognition, hospitality, and his commitment to honoring seniors, the backbone of Prince George’s County. #ImaraForPG #CommunityFirst
Kicked off spooky season with our annual family trip to @montfarms for the Fall Festival ππ. Autumn is my favorite time of year, nothing beats pumpkins and apple cider donuts to get in the holiday spirit, as an added bonus my daughter went berserk for the CORN PIT π½π. Grateful for these local traditions!

Deepest thanks to the Greater Baden Aquasco Citizens Association (GBACA) for welcoming me at your latest meeting. For 25 years, GBACA has been at the grassroots core of our local democracy, serving neighbors with courage, dedication and vision. I’m grateful for the chance to share my campaign and for your thoughtful questions from development to data centers, and environmental stewardship. Conversations like these strengthen our democracy and our county β€οΈ

Spent a beautiful day with my wife and daughter at National Public Lands Day, hosted by the @accokeek_foundation at Piscataway Park πΏ. We joined neighbors in cleaning up the shore and beach, one small way to help preserve the beauty of our natural spaces for generations to come. Grateful for family time and for the community that makes it possible.

Had a great time at the Clinton Community Walk on 9/11 connecting with neighbors, chatting about local issues, and celebrating what makes our community strong.
Getting to know more folks in Clinton through canvassing this past month has been wonderful, every conversation is a reminder of why I’m running: to listen, to show up, and to put people first.

Had a wonderful time at Farm & Family Day with my folks, extra proud to support my wife at Briar Rose Apothecary table πΉThe Farm Bureau always puts on events that are welcoming, family-focused, and full of genuine community spirit, no pretentiousness, just neighbors coming together.
