Why I Ran For Office

For too long, our nation and our neighborhood has suffered under unaccountable leadership marked by corruption and self-dealing. I believed then, as I believe now, that our community deserves better.

When I decided to run for County Council I did so to break with that tradition, bringing the transparency and accountability I promoted abroad back home to Prince George's County. I believe fiercely that hard-working families who invest and sacrifice here deserve to see the fruit of their commitment through quality schools, safe neighborhoods, and real opportunity.

We need to talk about our county budget. Right now, M-NCPPC is suing Prince George’s County because leadership tried to raid their funds... again. It’s the third time lately our parks and planning money has been at the center of a scandal, from state reprimands to the ethics complaints that forced a former chair's resignation. When officials treat dedicated funds like a piggy bank, we lose out on the basics like safe roads, sidewalks, and clean public spaces. Be The Church Sunday filled my heart with thanks for our community. 🙏🏾 This past Sunday, District 9 showed up for its neighbors in a big way. 700 families received free gas. 💛 200 families received free energy bill assistance. 💚 150 families received free groceries. 💛 I was honored to be a sponsor for Be The Church Sunday alongside incredible congregations that have been doing this work long before any camera or candidate showed up.
