This week, I’ll be in Baltimore for the State of the People National Assembly. This is the first event I’ll attend formally as a candidate for Prince George’s County Council, District 9. But more importantly, I want to be there in the spirit of solidarity with this movement and our future civic and political leaders.

Rooted in the power of Juneteenth and the legacy of gatherings like the 1972 Gary Convention, this Assembly is more than a convening, it’s a declaration. A declaration that we are not waiting to be saved. We are naming our solutions, shaping our future, and building the power we need, together.

I’m deeply looking forward to being in the room with visionary organizers, artists, advocates, and neighbors from across the country. As our local struggles meet national strategy, I’m reminded that the work we do in our communities is part of something far bigger.
